In celebration of National Poetry Month this April, the ArtCenter Library invites you to our Blackout Poetry Event for a fun afternoon of expressing yourself by making blackout (sometimes called erasure) poetry and collage! Come and socialize with your peers and meet new faces at ArtCenter while we share, read, and create poetry together.
Wednesday, April 10
4–8pm
ArtCenter Library, Hillside Campus
What is blackout poetry, or erasure poetry? It is a form of “found poetry,” where you create new meaning from an existing work. Starting with a newspaper, book, old magazine, or other printed text, you take a marker to the printed text and redact, or "blackout," the other words on the page until a poem emerges. Both the words you leave on the page and the redacted text combine to form a visual poem. Blackout Poetry lives at the intersection of poetry and art and is a refreshing way to boost your creativity!
We encourage participants to add their creations to a Library Zine as part of our permanent collection.
