When a House Is Not Just a Home (but a Museum)
Wednesday, December 11, 2024
11am – 1pm

Featuring video presentations by:
Maria Giuseppina Di Monte, Director of Hendrik Christian Andersen Museum
Arch. Maddalena Paolillo, Officer Pantheon Castel Sant‘Angelo DMN Rome
Dr. Aurora Cubeddu, Art historian of Hendrik Christian Andersen Museum
Prof. Giuseppe Carci, Associate Professor in Experimental Pedagogy, Universitas Mercatorum
Prof. Cecilia Bibbo, Visiting Assistant Professor, State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany

These presentations will focus on the difference between house museums and other kinds of museums. House museums are a special kind of museum as they are not the result of acquisitions, donations, commitment, but instead are a collection specifically connected with the place which hosts the artworks, objects, memorabilia etc. contained in that place.

Generally, house museums do not display unique artworks, so the museum's value is not so much dependent on individual objects, but rather from the connections and stories of all the material displayed and preserved and the people who frequents these places. We will be talking about the house museums of Hendrik Christian Andersen and that of Mario Praz, both in Rome, as case studies to map out the larger, extremely interesting and expanding phenomenon of house museums.
