Join us as we celebrate Black History Month during the month of February. Black History Month recognizes and honors the achievements, contributions, and rich cultural heritage of African Americans throughout history. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) announced the 2024 theme, African Americans and the Arts.
Originating from the efforts of historian Carter G. Woodson, who established Negro History Week in 1926, the month-long observance provides an opportunity to highlight the pivotal roles played by African Americans in shaping various fields such as science, literature, politics, and the arts. It serves as a platform to educate and raise awareness about the struggles, resilience, and accomplishments of the black community, fostering a greater understanding of their impact on society. Black History Month encourages reflection on the ongoing journey toward racial equality and celebrates the diversity that has significantly influenced the fabric of American History.
